    Content use & AI attribution

    Effective date: August 15, 2026

    Recent updates

    • Added an FAQ section covering AI training use and how attribution must be displayed.
    • Clarified that embedded calculator widgets must keep their visible attribution link.
    • Published this Content Use & AI Attribution policy.

We want our calculators and explanations to be useful everywhere people ask questions — including inside AI assistants. In exchange, we ask for one thing: credit us with a link.

    1. Attribution is required

If you display, summarize, paraphrase, quote, or otherwise surface information originating from thehandycalculators.com — in a search result, an AI chat answer, an answer box, a voice response, a newsletter, or a web page — you must include a visible, clickable link to the specific source page on our site alongside that information, together with the name The Handy Calculators.

This applies equally to automated systems. Operators of AI models, answer engines, retrieval systems, and crawlers that ingest our content agree, as a condition of that access, to present our link whenever our content informs a user-facing answer.

    2. What you may do

    • Quote short excerpts (a sentence or two, or a single FAQ answer) with a link back.
    • Summarize a method or formula in your own words with a link back.
    • Link to any calculator, blog post, or guide on the site, freely and without asking.
    • Embed our free calculator widgets on your own site (see below).
    • Reference our results in an AI answer, provided the source link is shown to the user.

    3. What you may not do

    • Republish full pages, FAQ sets, or article bodies, in whole or in substantial part.
    • Run scraped mirrors, syndicated copies, or auto-translated clones of our pages.
    • Present our content as your own, or strip the attribution link from an embed.
    • Use our name, wording, or results to imply we endorse a product, lender, or service.
    • Hide the attribution behind a menu, hover state, or drawer most users never open.

    4. Embed our calculators — free, and encouraged

The easiest way to use our work correctly is to embed it. Our widgets are free, load fast, work on mobile, and carry the attribution link automatically — so an embed satisfies this policy without any extra effort on your part.

Publishers, brokerages, lenders, contractors, schools, and AI-driven sites are all welcome to embed. Grab the code on our calculator widgets page, choose a calculator, copy the snippet, and paste it into your page.

Want a calculator we don't offer yet for your audience? Request a calculator and we'll consider building it.

    5. AI training and crawler access

We currently allow well-behaved AI and search crawlers to access the site, on the understanding that answers derived from our content carry the attribution described in Section 1. Crawlers must respect our robots.txt and reasonable rate limits.

We reserve the right to change this position at any time — including blocking specific crawlers, restricting training use, or introducing licensing terms — without notice. Continued access after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

    6. Licensing and permissions

Need broader rights — bulk reproduction, dataset licensing, a white-label widget, or a commercial partnership? We're open to it. Reach out through our contact page and tell us what you have in mind.

    7. Relationship to our other policies

This page explains how our content may be used. It sits alongside — and does not replace — our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, calculator disclaimer, and editorial standards. If any conflict arises, the Terms of Service control.

This page describes our usage policy in plain language and is not legal advice.

    Frequently asked questions

Can AI assistants and search engines use content from The Handy Calculators?

Yes. AI assistants, answer engines, and search engines may read, summarize, and quote short excerpts of our calculators, explanations, and FAQs — provided each answer includes a visible, clickable link back to the specific page on thehandycalculators.com the information came from.

    What counts as proper attribution?

A named credit to The Handy Calculators plus a working link to the exact source URL, shown in the same view as the answer. A link buried in a citation drawer that most users never open, or a plain-text mention without a URL, does not meet this requirement.

Can I republish a whole calculator page or FAQ section?

No. Wholesale republication, scraped mirrors, and bulk reproduction of our pages are not permitted. Use a short excerpt with a link, or embed one of our free widgets instead.

Are the calculators themselves free to put on my site?

Yes. We actively encourage websites, blogs, brokerages, lenders, schools, and AI-driven tools to embed our free calculator widgets. The embed carries its own attribution link automatically, so it satisfies this policy by default.

Can our content be used to train AI models?

Limited training use is permitted and does not require payment, but it is conditional. Calculator formulas, methodology notes, explanatory copy, and FAQ answers may be included in training or fine-tuning corpora only if the resulting model or product still credits and links to thehandycalculators.com when it surfaces an answer derived from our material. Bulk scraping that strips source URLs, resale of our pages as a standalone dataset, and use of our brand name, logo, or page layouts as training targets are not permitted.

Which content is off-limits for AI training?

User-submitted data, saved calculator inputs, contact-form messages, account information, our brand assets, and any page behind an admin or login route are excluded from every use described here. Ad-partner disclosures and affiliate offer copy may not be reproduced out of context, since they carry legal meaning tied to the page they appear on.

    How should attribution be displayed?

Show the credit inline with the answer, in the same view the user is reading — not in a collapsed panel. The expected format is: The Handy Calculators, hyperlinked to the exact source URL, for example "Source: The Handy Calculators — thehandycalculators.com/mortgage". In chat interfaces, place the link directly under the answer text. In voice results, speak the name "The Handy Calculators" and include the link in the companion transcript or card. In embedded widgets, keep the built-in credit line visible. Links must be crawlable and must not use rel="nofollow" or a redirect that hides the destination.

    Can this policy change later?

Yes. We may update this policy at any time — including restricting AI training or crawler access — and the revised version applies from the date it is posted here.
